General goals/objectives: (reading comprehension; speaking)

Specific goals/objectives:

  1. Read and understand two short articles about relationships in the family
  2. Discuss what people consider as nuclear vs. extended family

Materials needed for activity: (check the following)

  • Internet access
  • projector

Time: 45 minutes

Procedure:

Read short articles about relationships in the family, answer reading comprehension questions about these articles, discuss what people consider as nuclear vs. extended family, and play a competitive game involving vocabulary learned in the unit.

Activity 1

  1. Students read the the entry Nuclear family in simple wikipedia and answer questions 1-2.
  2. Check and discuss answers.

Activity 2

  1. Students read the the entry Extended family in simple wikipedia and answer questions 1-2.
  2. Check and discuss answers.

Activity 3

  1. Students divide words into these two categories (nuclear / extended family).
  2. Students discuss other terms and think what people consider as nuclear vs. extended family.

Activity 4

Students play a Kahoot game involving vocabulary learned in the unit.[/tabcontent][tabcontent]

  1. Reception / Reading; Overall reading comprehension; Can understand short, simple texts on familiar matters of a concrete type which consist of high frequency everyday or job-related language (A2+)
  2. Reception / Reading; Reading for information and argument; Can identify specific information in simpler written material he/she encounters such as letters, brochures and short newspaper articles describing events (A2)
  3. Interaction / Spoken; Information exchange: can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information. Can ask and answer questions about personal opinions (A2)

  • read and understand two short entries about Nuclear and Extended families
  • Discuss some other lexical terms in this field
