Levelling the playing field
ECOSTAR’s independentstudy vocabulary resources enable students to:
- check which words most learners already have acquired at the A2 Elementary (Besisi), B1 Intermediate (Mitkadmim Aleph) and B2 Upper Intermediate (Mitkadmim Bet) levels.
- check their own vocabulary levels to identify possible gaps. Results of the ECOSTAR survey show that some students only start their tertiary level English courses as late as seven years after they finish studying English at high school,and may need to narrow the gaps before starting their tertiary level studies.
- ECOSTAR’s vocabulary resources include a unique mobile application that utilizes gamification and a social element to motivate vocab practice in either single player or multi-player mode.

Access to these freely available open educational resources (OERs) will enable motivated students to continue learning English long after their English courses end.
